Gating Manual

This newly revised booklet presents the process of developing a successful die-casting gating system. The process presented is a series of steps that includes determining the casting quality requirements, visualizing the metal flow in the cavity, and determining and calculating cavity fill time, segment metal flow rates, ingate velocity, segment ingate areas, outgate areas, and vent areas. The process also includes evaluating die casting machine compatibility for the proposed gating system. From this engineered data fan runners, tangential runners, main runners, overflows, and vents or vacuum runners are designed resulting in detailed information used by the toolmaker to install the gating system in the die casting die. Accepted gating formulae and guidelines are presented for each step of the design process.
