Education

Discounted rates are offered for Corporate Members and their employees. A number of different options are available. Companies can participate in NADCA’s education courses at its headquarters in Wheeling IL, at a local chapter or in an in-plant course (the instructor comes to you). Certain online courses are available to members only and can be accessed through the member’s homepage at www.diecasting.org.

Online

Dust, Dross, Energy — NADCA has developed video segments for online training. These short training videos are conveniently located online at youtube at www.youtube.com/user/NADCAvideos. Topics currently include Energy Training,
Managing Combustible Dust Hazards in Die Casting Operations, Dross Training and Greenhouse Gas. Members are urged to take advantage of this free training which assists the die casting industry in providing education to its employees.

Safety — NADCA produced a safety video to assist the die caster in learning to recognize the hazards in the die casting environment. The safety training video demonstrates how to work in a safe manner to reduce potential injury. The video covers lock-out/tag-out of equipment, personal protective equipment, metal melting and handling, die casting machine guarding, hazardous communication and housekeeping. Knowledge in all of these topics is essential for the die caster to work safely and to maintain a safe work environment.

Metal Melting — Metal melting and handling is the key to successful die casting operations. NADCA, through funding from the H.L. Harvill foundation, has produced a 46-minute video to assist die casters to learn proper techniques at the melting and handling furnaces.

Online courses and training are something that NADCA has invested a lot of time into developing. We currently offer nine courses online with new courses being added frequently. Online courses are the most convenient of all the types of education we offer. They are easily accessible to anyone that has internet access and allows the student to learn at their own pace. The Online software allows you to leave the course and begin where you left off. Each course has an exam at the end of the course as well as mini-quizzes throughout.

Energy Workshop

NADCA’s Energy Efficiency workshop presents a plant with information that is critical in adapting to the changing legislation on energy. A keynote presenter will give an overview of the cap and trade bill, identify the greenhouse gases emitted by die casters and address how to calculate one’s carbon footprint in order to reduce energy costs. This is followed by a tour of the plant to see how energy-saving knowledge is applied.

Chapter Courses

NADCA Chapters are located throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Chapters are an extension of NADCA’s education and training, and most offer selected NADCA national courses and programs locally, thus expanding the technology transfer opportunities for every die caster. Chapters also offer a range of other technological and operational education programs specifically selected and tailored to the needs of die casters and suppliers in their Chapter areas.

In-Plant Programs

All NADCA programs, courses and installations can be brought to the worksite for presentation. The cost in savings and scheduling advantages can be substantial! The course(s) can be tailored to the specific needs of an organization, and the overall costs are much lower. The program and scheduling can be centered around your needs and the class size can be larger. The die caster has much more overall control over the education and training process.

In-House Programs

The Train-the-Trainer program is the first step in installing NADCA’s In-House Operator Training Program. This is a cost-effective method of providing the skills and knowledge needed on the shop floor because it provides die casting companies with their own in-house trainers. Employees trained as instructors will have a more realistic idea of company goals and may be received more favorably by employees over outside instructors.
