There are a few things you can do when you call a congressional
office to make your interaction as effective and successful as
possible. If you follow the tips below, you will be well on your way
to making a difference for NADCA.
- Identify yourself and where you are from – make sure you let them
know that you are a constituent.
- Be clear about your purpose for calling.
- Mention the bill number and the issue that impacts your business as
well as the action you are requesting.
- Be organized. Have speaking points prepared before you place your
call.
- Be knowledgeable about your position as well as the opposition’s.
- Be polite and firm, even if the staff member does not agree with
your position. Let them know that you will follow up with another
phone call later.
- Do not make threats – you never know when you may need their support
on later issues.
