Reducing Costs and Lead time and Promoting
Weapons System Readiness for Metal Components
The die casting industry plays an essential role in our national defense,
with ten percent of all castings devoted to military-specific purposes.
Building on this contribution, a research partnership was established in
1995 with the Department of Defense (DOD) to solve cost and lead time
problems for spare weapons parts.
As a member of the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC), NADCA is part
of a broad partnership consisting of four trade associations (the American
Foundry Society, the Steel Founders Society of America, and the Non-Ferrous
Foundry Society), seven leading universities, 230 metalcasting companies,
defense contractors, DOD supply centers, and an experienced team of
applications engineers.
The AMC program consists of three main features: advanced technology
development through industry-university research; technology transfer to
industry; and an applied engineering team that creates supply chain
solutions for hard to procure cast components.
