Housing Components for Field Laptop Computer

Die Casting Alloy: Mg AZ91D Zn No. 3

Field laptop computer, with five housing components die cast in AZ91D magnesium alloy and one in zinc No. 3, shown in the finished assembly at left.  Redesigned for rugged mobile use in the field from an earlier plastic injection molded design, the new unit exceeds polymer's capabilities.  It provides light weight, high level built-in EMI/RFI shielding, excellent heat transfer properties, superior strength and surface finish, as cast.  The unit must withstand multiple drop test to concrete.  The six die cast parts are shown below.
