PROJECT MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

GENERAL:

The Project Manager at Ace Precision International, LLC (Ace) is at the center activity for the products and services provided by Ace.  This position is at the crossroads of contact with both the customer and the manufacturing supplier.  Once Ace develops a customer, then the Project Manager assumes responsibility from the Sales Department for the new customer.  It is his/her assignment to bring new projects to production and to maintain the ongoing successful service to the customer. 

With new projects, the Project Manager first analyzes the customer needs, secures quotes from the manufacturing suppliers, and finalizes the quotation back to the customer.  Then when Ace receives a purchase order for the new project, the Project Manager is responsible to bring the PPAP submission to successful completion.

After new product startup, the Project Manager communicates with the supplier on a daily/weekly basis and with the customer as needed.  The Project Manager works with the Order Entry staff at Ace to translate orders from the customer to orders to the manufacturing supplier.   Additionally, the Project Manager works with the Quality Department on any quality issues that develop and then manages the CAR process and the successful resolution to the quality situation—both short term and long term.

The Project Manager will be expected to travel as needed to both the customer and the manufacturing supplier.  Currently, the customers are located in North America and Europe.  It is hard to predict the travel needed to customers, but it could involve 4-6 trips annually.  Depending on the reason for the travel, the trips to the customers would typically involve only an over-night trip.  The manufacturing suppliers are located in the Peoples Republic of China, the Republic of Vietnam, and India.  Normally, travel to Asia would be 2-3 times a year, with duration of 7-10 days.

The Project Manager shall work with each of his assigned customers to actively develop new work with them.  This could involve take over work from competitors on existing jobs or could involve working with the engineering staff, advanced buyers, and new product development staff as the customer seeks to bring on new castings.  He/she will work to be the customer’s first contact point when the customer thinks of castings.

 

SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION FROM ISO DOCUMENTATION:

The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Advance Quality Planning Procedure is used to attain process control at time of launch. All employees are responsible for working in accordance with the documented Quality Management System and for ensuing that products and services meet the customer’s specified requirements.

The Project Managers have responsibility for identifying suppliers, generating purchase orders, procuring materials, and for issuing and maintaining contracts with subcontractors. The Project Managers also tracks delivery performance of suppliers.

The Project Managers have the primary responsibility for ensuring the latest customer print and models are logged into the system, filed and controlled. They are also responsible for the control of all customer related specifications and standards etc.

 

The Project Managers are responsible for timely logging and responding to an RFQ, in defining the process method to manufacture the part, and defining any tooling and gage requirements.

The Project Manager’s also have overall responsibility for receiving customer releases and verifying the company’s capability to meet delivery requirements.

The Project Manager is responsible for the approval of purchase orders and required revisions to ensure that products and services ordered comply with the requisition requirements. Only suppliers listed on the customer and/or Ace’s Approved Supplier List (ASL) are used. Purchasing is responsible for generating actual purchase orders and for tracking delivery performance of critical suppliers.

The Project Managers have the responsibility to review and confirm customer directed sources per the new product launch process.

The Quality Manager and Project Manager are responsible for the review and disposition of nonconforming parts, which may include rework, scrap, sorting. These responsibilities also extend to obtaining written customer authorization before shipping product with a known nonconformity.
