Part one of the Lean Manufacturing series will focus on the need for change to take place and creating an understanding of what “lean thinking” is and discussing some typical misconceptions about lean manufacturing. A historical perspective will be developed on the evolution of manufacturing from craft to mas to lean and further to the current view of “Lean Systems Thinking”. The impact of changing market forces will be reviewed and the new reality of customer expectations will be discussed and embraced as a driving force for change.
