Part design is the number one factor affecting the final porosity in a casting. This is due to the physical sources of porosity. This course will explain casting and tooling design choices that can be used to control porosity. Avoid porosity before the first casting is sampled by designing the casting for low levels of porosity. The following topics are addresses in this course: ? Hot spots attract porosity, ? Abrupt wall thickness changes, ? Thick/ thin sections, ? Gate heights / locations, ? Design for ejection and ? Thermal design / control
