T6 Heat Treating of Strontium Modified, Low-Iron Conventional Die Castings

Description:
Recently developed strontium-modified, low iron conventional die castings possess excellent ductilities due to their reduced iron concentrations. Soldering to the die is minimized through the addition of relatively high (~0.05%) levels of strontium. Research in Australia has also shown that conventional die castings can be T6 heat treated without blistering to significantly increase strength values, so long as the solution heat treatment time is kept short (less than 15 minutes at temperature).ÊThis webinar will report on a NADCA funded project to characterize the impact of full T6 heat treating parameters on the mechanical properties of conventional die castings produced from both strontium modified, low-iron 360-type alloys and low-iron 380-type alloys.
