A Mechanical Engineering Student at Trine University
Jonathan Waidelich
Jonathan Waidelich is pursuing his mechanical engineering degree at Trine University. He completed his third internship at the Honda of America Mfg. Inc. Anna Plant this past year. Through this year’s internship, he learned about improving the processes used to maintain good quality in castings, mostly through three projects — thermal camera set-up, spray mapping and hand leak test area improvement. The thermal camera set-up project allowed Waidelich to see how the industry uses infrared technology to find cooling problems which may cause casting defects. While completing the reference spray maps, Waidelich was able to observe methods of applying die lubricant to the die face and core surfaces. His involvement with the hand leak test area gave him some organization and design experience. Waidelich said his experiences during his internships will assist him in being an efficient engineer.
