NADCA to Host 2011 Die Casting Congress & Tabletop in Columbus, OH
Wheeling, IL – June 23, 2010 – Beginning in 2011, the North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) is excited to announce that they will once again be hosting die casting specific shows.

The Die Casting Congress & Tabletop and Die Casting Congress & Exposition will occur in 2011 and 2012 respectively. The Die Casting Congress & Tabletop will be Sept. 19-21, 2011, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center – Battelle Hall South in Columbus, OH. During the three days of Congress sessions, technical and management presentations will be given by experts from around the world. These presentations will expose metalcasters to the latest technology, ongoing research and successful management tools that will assist companies in enhancing their competitiveness.

“We look forward to a strong combination of technical papers and supplier displays that will demonstrate die casting’s important part within the entire metalcasting industry,” said NADCA president Daniel L. Twarog. The Congress sessions will be presented at the adjoining Hyatt Regency Columbus. In addition to the Congress sessions, this tabletop show will feature more than 60 exhibitors, the International Die Casting Design Competition, a design luncheon and an awards banquet.

NADCA is excited to once again be providing an annual event that is exclusive to the die casting industry and its suppliers. The 2012 and 2015 Die Casting Congress & Exposition will be held in Indianapolis, the first week of October (Monday-Wednesday).

“This decision was made by NADCA because our joint venture partner requested a significant reduction in NADCA’s portion of these events proceeds,” said Twarog. “The level requested made it uneconomical for NADCA to move forward in the joint venture agreement.”

Exhibitor applications are currently available for the Die Casting Congress & Tabletop online at: http://www.diecasting.org/congress/tabletop/exhibitors. Attendee registration is scheduled to open by January 17, 2011. For more information on the Die Casting Congress & Tabletop, please visit http://www.diecasting.org/congress/.

Administration Proposes Superfund Tax Reinstatement on Manufacturers
The Obama Administration has requested that Congress reinstate the Superfund Tax beginning in 2011 through 2020.

Overview:

The Superfund tax has 4 components:
- 3 excise taxes on oil, chemicals, and chemicals used as a feedstock, and
- a broad based tax called the Corporate Environmental Income Tax (CEIT), applicable to nearly all die casters. Forty percent of the Superfund Tax revenues are estimated to come from the CEIT. Under the CEIT, a new income tax would be levied on manufacturers of 0.12 percent on alternative minimum taxable income of $2 million or more. The Superfund Tax expired in 1995.

The Senate Environment & Public Works Subcommittee on Superfund, Toxics and Environmental Health had a hearing this week entitled, "Oversight of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund Program." NADCA has signed on to a letter to be sent to key members of the Senate and House Leadership, as well as the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways & Means Committee to object to this new tax that has not had any hearings by the congressional tax-writing committees, as well as the impact another tax will have on the metalcasting sector.

China's Currency Reform & U.S. Legislation
China, under pressure from governments around the globe, announced over the weekend that it would proceed with a long-awaited overhaul of its currency regime, igniting hopes that the renminbi is on course to rise against the dollar after Beijing prohibited any gains against the U.S. currency for nearly the past two years. However, even if China allows the RMB to rise by 3 to 5 percent over the next few months, it would come nowhere close to eliminating the RMB’s estimated 35 to 40 percent undervaluation relative to the U.S. dollar.

Chief sponsors of currency reform legislation Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH) are looking at a variety of avenues to move forward on their respective pieces of legislation to make prolonged currency misalignment actionable under U.S. countervailing duty (CVD) and anti-dumping law as soon as possible.

Congressmen Tim Ryan (D-OH) and Tim Murphy (R-PA) will be holding a press conference tomorrow (Wednesday) to press for the House to act on their currency bill and to say that China's action of this weekend is not enough. H.R. 2378, the Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act has over 120 cosponsors.

Is Branding Relevant in Today’s B2B Market?
As companies struggle to gain traction in a tough economy, they are continuing to reevaluate all of their business methods to squeeze out a profit. This assessment includes the investment they make in branding. Many marketing experts argue that downturns are a particularly good time to invest in brand building. They contend that if competitors are cutting spending on branding, companies that continue to invest will stand out even more and be poised for greater success when business conditions improve. A common definition of branding is the marketing practice of creating a name, symbol or design that identifies and differentiates a product from other products. An effective brand strategy can give you a major edge in increasingly competitive markets.
