SCRA affiliate gets $5.2M contract to enhance weapons systems
ATI, a private, nonprofit research company and SCRA affiliate, has been awarded a three-year, $5.2
million contract from Benet Labs for the Superior Weapons Systems through Castings program.
ATI works to build global consortiums to develop solutions in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive,
maritime, metals and health care.
The Superior Weapons Systems through Castings program is part of the American Metalcasting
Consortium, which develops and applies new technologies for cast parts to support the U.S. military.
The consortium is composed of industry leaders, government and research universities. ATI is the
program manager and consortium leader.

NADCA joins to Support IMPACT Act
As Congress considers sweeping energy and climate legislation, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio has
developed a strategy to improve the long-term competitiveness of American manufacturers and increase
domestic capacity for manufacturing clean energy technologies. During the five years following its
enactment, the IMPACT Act would:
Establish a $30 billion Manufacturing Revolving Loan Fund
States would receive grants to establish revolving loan funds to assist small and mid-sized firms in
retooling, expanding or establishing domestic clean energy manufacturing operations, and in becoming
more energy efficient. These loans would provide much-needed liquidity and improve the competitive
position of domestic manufacturers.
Expand and Focus MEPs on Clean Energy Manufacturing
The Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), a division of the Department of Commerce's
National Institute of Standards and Technology, would receive $1.5 billion in federal funds over five
years to help manufacturers access clean energy markets and adopt innovative, energy-efficient
manufacturing technologies. Currently, the 59 MEP centers around the U.S. are able to assist only a
small portion of the country's 330,000 small and mid-sized manufacturing plants. The additional
federal funding in this bill could enable the MEP to reach at least 10,000 additional U.S.
manufacturers per year.

Don't Lose Your Tax-Exempt Status!
Beginning in May 2010, tax-exempt organizations that have not filed a required 990-series form for
three consecutive years will automatically lose their tax-exempt status. Tax-exempt organizations
must file a Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-N (ePostcard) or 990-PF (for private foundations) with the IRS.
The returns are due by the 15th day of the fifth month after the close of an organization’s tax year.

following May 15th.

Manufacturing Matters – Participate in the Annual Shipment Census
NADCA developed a system of tracking annual shipment pounds of die castings. NADCA annually collects the same data
yearly to allow us to provide valuable information to you and our politicians. This is an annual industry census
recording shipment trends from year to year. The Department of Commerce stopped collecting this data a few years
ago.
This census is for North American Die Casters only. To enter your company's data, please visit www.diecasting.org/shipments/all by May 31st.
DCE Wants Your Advice: Aluminum
In every issue of Die Casting Engineer, readers report on tips they use to improve, implement or
sustain a process. The tips are then compiled into a list and printed in the magazine for the benefit
of all the readers. Here is this month’s question related to Aluminum: “List the specific aluminum
alloys and heat treatments that provide enhanced performance over standard A380” If you have some
insight on this topic, click here to share your advice.
