Mercury Marine Proposal Lapses
Mercury Marine early Sunday confirmed that the contract proposal formally rejected
by union members Aug. 23 expired at midnight Saturday, Aug. 29, without acceptance
by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).
IAM Lodge 1947 conducted a last-minute vote at the Labor Center, 50 E. Bank St., on
the original proposal terms and conditions but did not complete the process to a
definitive conclusion prior to the expiration of the proposal.
As a result, Mercury said it will continue to operate the Fond du Lac facility under
the terms and conditions of the existing contract, which expires in 2012.

Plunger Systems: The Hidden Heart of Die Casting
The role of the plunger system in the die casting process is deceptively simple.
Molten alloy is poured into one end of the shot sleeve and pushed out the other end.
This is done repeatedly and as quickly as possible. The effective operation of the
plunger system is essential to productive die casting for an unusual reason. The
real worth of an effective plunger system is not measured by what it does, but by
what it doesn’t do. That is, an effective plunger system does not make good die
casting happen — it allows it to happen. An absolutely reliable plunger system is in
truth the hidden heart of any successful die casting process. To read the full

Auto Cast Files for Bankruptcy Protection
Auto Cast Inc has filed for bankruptcy after its bank, Huntington National Bank,
called in its loans.
In a filing in US Bankruptcy Court in Grand Rapids, Mr Carl Homrich CEO of Auto Cast
Inc said that "The filing was driven by one factor, an aggressive position from
Huntington National Bank. Today's credit market has resulted in Huntington National
Bank cutting off credit line and demanding unconditional personal guarantees from
the owners for 100% of all indebtedness."
