NADCA Receives Funding for Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction Project
NADCA has collaborated with the U.S. Department of Energy
and university researchers across the country on an innovative new research and development program aimed
at rapidly maximizing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in our domestic transportation
system.
This program, known as HyperCAST, focuses on the development of materials and processes for cast light weight components
for fuel efficient passenger cars and both commercial and military trucks. HyperCAST technology holds dynamic potential
for protecting the environment and creating jobs in the die casting industry and the automotive market.
Learn more about NADCA’s initiative to advance this new federal partnership by attending the 2009 Metalcasting Industry
Government Affairs Conference this May 4-5 in Washington, D.C. For online registration and additional information,

Aluminum Caster Compass Expands Auto Arm, Banks on Rebound
Washington (Platts) ― Amid government bailouts and
talk of bankruptcy, Compass Automotive Grp. is banking on a turnaround in the embattled automotive sector,
enough that it last week acquired its second asset in the automotive sector ― the high pressure die
casting and machining units of Citation Corp. — and says it is looking to buy more.
“Our primary focus right now is automotive,” Compass CEO Jim Squatrito told Platts in an interview. “We're very aggressive
in that area. We made this acquisition, and honestly, we're looking for others in the same space."
Compass will absorb the Citation business, located in Grand Rapids and Lowell, MI, into its current die cast operations.
Compass ― which is the corporate parent of Casting Technologies, Magnesium Aluminum Corp. and SRC — is a supplier to
car makers and Tier 1 automotive suppliers that is part of the portfolio of companies owned by Monomoy Capital Partners.

Energy – You’ve Got to Measure It to Know You Saved It!
Energy savings seldom comes with a single
“stroke of the capital pen.” It comes with a decision at the top, usually presidential level,
to commit to a sustained effort to reduce energy consumption per pound or unit of castings
shipped. However, this commitment isn’t enough. Too often, once energy saving is identified as
a priority, there is a scattered effort with a “turning off the lights” approach. Before long,
the effort winds down.
Are you ready to make the commitment to energy savings? Energy saving efforts are just one path to a more
profitable company. It’s still easier to save $40,000 in energy than it is to find $1,000,000 in new business
— with both having the same impact on the bottom line.
